Jerry just dreaming.......

We took a quick trip to Victoria on Sunday with Walter and Mavis to attend the Victoria Floating Boat Show. Some day, when we are older, we will probably trade in Splendid Mane for a power boat of some kind. It usually takes us years to make a decision, and in the meantime we take every opportunity to get on the boats. This particular boat was the "green" boat at the show because they had used green products and methods during construction. But, how green can you be if you have a 405 hp engine that burns 8 gallons of fuel per hour cruising along at 8-10 knots? Seems a bit like an oxymoron! It was a beautiful boat though!

Looking through from outside to inside to outside.

Almost done........

We are anxiously awaiting the completion of our new canvas. All that is left to do is the side panel on each side. In the picture you can see the completed dodger (with covers on the windows) and the connecting piece between the dodger and the bimini.

Step three...... enclosure

The side panels are under construction, taking somewhat longer than we had anticipated. This is before the windows have been installed. It is not looking like we are going to have time to do much of a test run before our circum-navigation, but we'll see how our time goes once we get back from Alberta.

Step two... bimini

This is the bimini going on..... it is connected to the dodger and is a roof for keeping the sun and rain out of the cockpit. It doesn't look like much at the moment, but the next few pictures will tell a better story. We are hoping to have Splendid Mane back by the end of next week.

Step one.... dodger

Our dodger, the 'windshield' part of the canvas, is complete. We got a nice green fabric instead of the tan and the front window is almost twice as big as on the old one.......
so we have much more visability while sailing. So far, so good.
We are very happy with the new look.

New Canvas for Splendid Mane

Splendid Mane is getting a new canvas. The canvas on now is the original and it has seen better days. We also wanted to have a full enclosure around the cockpit, which will make boating in the rain more fun. Below is a picture of the old canvas.........
and all canvas stripped off.
Our boat is sitting in the marina across from us in Ladysmith Harbour. We are hoping to have the work done soon so we can try it out while we are still having rainy weather!
